Pacific, Mo. 5K Run through Shaw Nature Reserve

Received this from colleague Duke:
Add this to the runners' blog. It is a cool run through Shaw Nature Reserve in Gray Summit. You even get to see fat-boy me run!

Starting the Experienced Program...

I suppose I shall follow the Dr.'s (Bogner's that is) orders and attempt the Experienced Program listed on the St. Louis Half/Marathon website. Tomorrow is the first day with a trite 3 mile jaunt. Check back later for any and all results!

On the Treadmill

I'm out in Charleston and was all set to run this morning. I ran yesterday morning and it was just wonderful...it was around 55 degrees. This morning, the temperature was the same but there was a heavy fog advisory...and given that I'm not at all familiar with the area, it seemed best to keep it inside. I made my way down to the workout center an hopped on the treadmill. Pure torture! I thought I was going to go crazy just running without getting anywhere. I've been running outside all winter, through rain, sleet, snow and cold, and this was worse than anything I'd been through all year.

I know that there will be a time again when I'm stuck indoors on the mill. Does anyone have any suggestions so that it won't be so terribly boring next time? Should I listen to tunes? Try to medidate? Turn up the TV? Ugh.

Blog name

Admittedly, it's a niggling matter and has little-to-nothing to do with our preparation for the event, but I'd like to respectfully propose that we change the name of this blog to something, for lack of a better word, "catchier." Arunners sounds like some sort of fan club for our colleague Arun (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

To that end, I'll offer a few initial ideas:
  • Asynchrothoners
  • Asyncrunners
  • Geekrunners
  • GeekSneaks
  • CodersOnTheRun

One less excuse

My grandma-in-law gave me some Asics running shoes for Christmas, so I suppose that's one less excuse I have to not train. :) They're actually almost more comfortable than walking around the house barefoot (I've worn them every day since Christmas). So I'm curious: You serious runner-types, what kind of footwear do you wear? Anyone go Zola Budd-style?
